Chapter 298: Dreamscape

Chapter 298: Dreamscape

Kiki moved her gaze to Eric Rowe, the disgust in her eyes no longer concealed. Previously, she had to consider his status and show some courtesy, but now it was completely unnecessary.

Why was he always everywhere? Whenever he appeared in front of her, disaster followed, time after time.

"Why are you in this crew? Did you buy your way in?"

This was a topic she often mocked. She knew what Eric Rowe minded the most.

Eric Rowe had entered the entertainment industry relying on his family background, which was both his support and something his proud self was unwilling to mention.

As expected, veins bulged on Eric Rowe’s forehead: "You! You..."

Maya Monroe shot him a glance, signaling for him to stay calm.

They were surrounded by Kiki’s people, wary of falling into her trap. Maya sensed some kind of change had occurred in Kiki.

Maya refocused her gaze on Kiki, her tone steady: "There are a lot of crew members walking around. If they capture this and it spreads online, it won’t be easy to handle. So..."

Her tone lowered, subtly warning, "Know when to stop, Kiki. Don’t make things too ugly..."

Kiki’s body stiffened slightly, then a radiant smile spread across her lips, ambiguously saying, "Hard to handle? Know when to stop?" Her voice seemed to squeeze through her teeth: "Sister, how considerate of you."

The rapid sound of footsteps approached, the director rushing over from the set with a loudspeaker in hand. He raised it directly: "No fighting! No fighting!!"

He slowly walked into the crowd, noticing the bodyguards in black suits and sunglasses around him. A trace of displeasure flashed in his eyes.

But whatever crossed his mind, he suppressed his displeasure and asked, "Why is everyone gathered here? Is something happening?"

Kiki would be staying with the crew for quite some time, so offending the director was of no benefit to her. She smiled again: "It’s been a long time since I last met Maya. I just wanted to catch up with her."

The director’s gaze swept over the fierce-looking bodyguards, and he said nothing in the end.

Kiki clasped her hands in front of her, her smiling eyes exuding an innocent look: "It’s been so long since I’ve seen sister that I might have been overly excited. Sister, please don’t be mad at Kiki."

Maya just scoffed coldly.

Seeing the situation resolved, the director hurried back to the set, where there was still an actor’s scene waiting for his supervision.

All the bodyguards had retreated to Kiki’s side, but Kiki stepped forward a few paces, leaning close to Maya’s ear: "Sister, there’s something I want to tell you..."

Maya looked at her steadily, listening to her slowly speak: "Sister, Kiki had a dream, a dream with you and me, and many familiar people..."

The more Maya listened, the more annoyed she became. She was about to leave when Kiki grabbed her wrist, a smile with unclear meaning on the corners of her mouth:

"In that story, everyone revolves around me. I never had any dissatisfaction, my life was smooth sailing. Movie roles and endorsement opportunities came my way, and I won the Best Actress crown. And you..."

Kiki’s grip tightened, her voice terrifyingly harsh: "You were just a failure, never good at anything! Your reputation was ruined, you were disgracefully kicked out, struggling to survive on the streets..."

Her voice carried a twisted delight: "You have no idea how laughable you are, wandering around with a duffel bag on every street corner, not a soul respecting you, restaurant staff kicking you out, drenched in soup..."

Maya shook off Kiki’s hand, looking at her with a mocking gaze, her voice betraying no emotion.

"Have I been suppressing you too much? Is that why you have such pathetic dreams to fulfill your fantasies?"

Before Kiki could respond, Maya left with Eric.

Behind them, Kiki’s voice came, indiscernible of emotion: "This time I underestimated your strength. I promise you, next time I’ll have a stronger bodyguard!"

Maya seemed not to hear, walking straight ahead.

They finally returned to their resting spot, sitting on a long bench.

Scott walked over with an umbrella to shield Maya from the sun, handing another parasol to Eric: "Sister Meng, why are you staying here without a canopy? What if you get tanned?"

Maya’s expression wasn’t pleasant, with a slight frown.

Only she knew what Kiki was talking about. The dream Kiki mentioned was the original storyline of the book, which had changed because she had crossed over.

How did Kiki know? Did she really have a dream, or was someone else guiding her?

Besides what was said, did Kiki know anything else?

One unknown after another swirled in Maya’s mind.

The plot had already progressed to 95%, everything proceeding incredibly smoothly. It really couldn’t be that easy to complete the task; Kiki’s comeback was an unpredictable hindrance.

Maya had thought of inquiring headquarters, but she quickly dismissed it. Headquarters wouldn’t give her any answers; the services or help they offered were within a specific range.

Seems like she’ll have to take it step by step...

"Sister Meng? Sister Meng...?"

Eric waved a hand: "Scott, stop calling her ’Sister-in-law.’ She’s probably upset because of that Kiki, let her rest for a bit! How did we have such bad luck to encounter her..."

Hearing Eric’s term, Scott was secretly pleased. After years as an assistant, it was the first time someone called him "Brother Scott." Even though he was older than Eric by a few years, given the other’s status, Scott was truly flattered.

Soon, he noticed another overlooked topic: "What... what did you just say? Kiki?! Wasn’t she benched? It’s been almost half a year..."

"She came to the crew today, making quite an entrance. She must be here to film. Before this, the program team had no related news, she probably got parachuted in."

Scott frowned tightly at the news: "That Kiki was always against our Sister Meng, she probably won’t let it go easily after her comeback."

"I’m right here. Let’s see how she bullies my sister-in-law!" Eric said fiercely.

Maya snapped out of her daze, accepting the drink Ivy handed her, though she didn’t drink it: "This matter seems peculiar..."

Maya turned her gaze to Scott: "Kiki definitely has backing, and it’s significant backing. Scott, you should investigate this matter. Start by finding out how she joined the crew..."
