Chapter 2309 - 2308: A Bird
Ling Feng’s silhouette quickly disappeared from view, and Xiao Xiao stood there, lost in thought.
Although she knew he was the Body Snatcher, Xiao Xiao never expected him to be so formidable.
She was most familiar with the people of Ling Family Village.
Ling Feng’s arrival completely overturned her perception of men.
It turned out someone could be so strong, not everyone was a weakling.
Ling Feng stepped out the door and saw a shadow flash past in the distance, hiding behind a house as if afraid of being seen.
He already noticed it was the little boy named Huzi from yesterday, so he quickly approached from the other side of the wooden house, arriving right behind him.
Huzi was still crouched by the wooden wall, peeping, entirely unaware that Ling Feng was already behind him!
Seeing this scene, Ling Feng chuckled and pinched his ear!
"Ah, it hurts, ouch ouch!"
Huzi’s face twisted in pain, quickly begging for mercy.
Ling Feng didn’t loosen his grip, chuckled coldly as he looked at him: "Kid, you’re sneaky, tricked me yesterday!"
"Who, who told you to hit me!"
Huzi winced in pain but still spoke defiantly.
"You call that a hit? Afraid you haven’t experienced a real beating, have you?"
Ling Feng sneered, then asked: "Tell me, what’s so sneaky you’re watching here?"
"I was watching when you’d come out!" Huzi replied.
"Why so curious?"
Ling Feng was speechless, rolling his eyes: "Now that you know I’m out, what do you want?"
"N-nothing!"
Huzi struggled to say.
Ling Feng let go, and earnestly looked at him: "Not talking, huh? Fine, I’ll be heading into the forest soon, taking you with me!"
"No!"
Huzi was scared stiff upon hearing this, quickly waving his hands: "I’ll talk, I’ll talk!"
"Such little courage?"
Ling Feng shook his head speechlessly.
Then he looked at Huzi: "Speak!"
"You-you stayed there last night, are you going to be the village’s Witch King now?" Huzi asked.
"Huh?"
Ling Feng was puzzled: "What Witch King, why say that?"
"No one can casually enter the Witch’s house, you not only entered but stayed a night there, doesn’t that make you the Witch King? The Witch King is the greatest priest in the village, status second only to the Village Chief!" Huzi explained.
"You think too much!"
Ling Feng was speechless, understanding his point, but he stayed separately from Xiao Xiao last night, no relationship occurred, how could he be the Witch King?
Moreover, what’s the benefit of being the Witch King?
Then he patted Huzi on the head: "Don’t be so curious, I’m off!"
"Hey, where are you going?" Huzi caught up to ask.
"I’m heading into the forest to hunt!"
Ling Feng said as he walked.
Huzi was stunned hearing this, following behind asking: "Ling Xiao’er, are you crazy, when did you get so bold!"
"Yesterday!"
Ling Feng replied, then added: "Go back and tell the villagers to wait, everyone’s having meat for lunch!"
"...."
Huzi stopped in his tracks, stunned in place.
Then he muttered to himself, fearfully: "Crazy, Ling Xiao’er really went crazy!"
Once that kid reported back home, it didn’t take long for all one hundred households, three hundred people of Ling Family Village to hear about Ling Xiao’er going mad, heading into the forest to hunt.
People ran to report to the Village Chief, but the old man was indifferent: "Relax, Ling Xiao’er helped me gather herbs yesterday, he’s got the skill!"
Ling Feng was unaware of the village happenings, heading straight for the forest after exiting the village, striding towards that tree.
Only now did he realize his body indeed changed, his physique stronger than yesterday.
But it wasn’t a qualitative leap, at most just better stamina.
Racing toward that tree, Ling Feng observed his surroundings for movement.
He now had experience, knowing that only past a hundred meters into the forest would you encounter beast attacks, within a hundred meters was still safe.
This was also why he didn’t meet danger when gathering herbs before.
Fortunately he collected enough herbs then, otherwise going further inside, the consequences would’ve been unthinkable!
Now Ling Feng had passed a hundred meters, the surroundings were silent, only his steps rustling as he moved.
The quieter it was, the more tense he felt, with a growing sense of impending danger!
After another dozen meters, Ling Feng’s steps halted!
The intense danger felt even stronger!
He had to stop and look around, trying to find where the danger lurked.
Just then, a sudden gust of malevolent wind blew overhead, Ling Feng yelled "oh no," and swiftly executed an agile roll!
Assuming something was hiding behind trees or in bushes, he didn’t expect an aerial attack, Ling Feng was caught off guard!
Rolling away, he glanced back and discovered a huge bird!
The bird stood over six feet tall, feet planted on the ground, yellow eyes fixed fiercely on him, its sharp beak gleaming coldly!
The bird’s beak was over eight inches long; from the sharpness, if bitten, one’s head would likely shatter!
Ling Feng felt a tremor of fear, gripping his Curved Saber, wondering what kind of creature could grow so large?
Judging by its fierce gaze, it clearly didn’t want to give up after failing the ambush, still intent on attacking!
Ling Feng held his Curved Saber, saying to himself, "You want to eat me, but I’d love to roast you over a fire!"
After a moment’s standoff, the bird suddenly screeched and soared towards him!
Ling Feng quickly stepped back, using a tree to shield himself.
Yet the bird didn’t dodge, crashing straight ahead!
"Crack!"
A bowl-sized tree snapped from the impact!
The bird paused momentarily as a consequence.
Using that pause and momentum, Ling Feng squatted and charged!
Victory or defeat rested at this moment!
Reaching beneath the bird, he thrust his Curved Saber at its belly.
A distinct "puff" sounded!
The blade penetrated.
Seeing it hadn’t fully pierced, Ling Feng pushed with his left hand against the right, forcefully driving the entire blade inside!
The bird emitted a sharp, painful screech, then stomped down with its foot!
Caught unprepared, Ling Feng was crushed by the foot, screaming in agony, feeling stars burst before his eyes, almost losing consciousness!
His insides felt shattered; Ling Feng was dizzy with pain, knowing this was a life-or-death moment. To avoid another stomp, he mustered his strength to wrench out the Curved Saber.
This was fatal to the bird, having damaged its innards before; now, its belly’s insides got sliced to shreds!
