Chapter 738: Long Time No See, Cole Vaughn
Chapter 738: Long Time No See, Cole Vaughn
"He recklessly offended you. Since you don’t wish to get your hands dirty, it’s alright. We’re more than happy to serve you."
Janine Linton spoke in a very formal tone.
Like a customer service agent offering impeccable service.
The thought made Selena Kensington chuckle.
Service?
The Godsbane Organization serving her?
What an utterly ridiculous notion.
This thought merely flickered through Selena’s mind without warranting further attention.
Seeing that Janine Linton and Cole Vaughn showed no signs of taking action, Selena attempted to sit down on the sofa in Lynn Rhodes’ office.
Once seated, she adjusted to a position that didn’t make her abdomen uncomfortable.
After getting comfortable, Selena looked up at Cole Vaughn.
Since Selena entered the office, Cole’s gaze had been fixed on her.
Selena had previously tried to ignore Cole’s stare, but now she had to face him directly.
Her gaze was calm, and her words exceptionally composed.
"Long time no see, Cole."
As if engaging in casual chit-chat.
A flicker of emotion crossed Cole Vaughn’s eyes. "I said before I left, we’d meet again."
He responded to Selena’s greeting with these words.
"..."
Cole’s words inevitably brought back memories of the scene when Selena had accompanied him to the airport for his departure.
Back then, she never imagined they would meet again in this manner.
After calming herself, Selena asked, "Why are you here to see me?"
Cole Vaughn stood tall, but he slightly leaned back, resting his entire body against the office chair.
He tapped his fingers on the desk in a rhythmic pattern.
After a minute of silence, he finally spoke, "To ask you to return to the Godsbane Organization."
"???"
For a moment, Selena was confused, but her mind quickly reasserted itself as a flash of anger ignited within her.
She laughed coldly, fixing Cole Vaughn with an unwavering gaze.
"Return? How absurd!"
"I was never part of this so-called Godsbane Organization, so what ’return’ are you talking about?"
Her eyes seemed to burn with an intense light, trying to pierce through the darkness in Cole’s gaze.
Cole instinctively avoided her eyes.
But this unusual reaction from him was fleeting; he quickly returned to his usual self.
He sat there, emanating an oppressive aura.
"You were chosen by us, you were always one of us. If the Norwood Family hadn’t intervened, you would already be back with Godsbane..."
Mentioning the Norwood Family, Cole couldn’t help but think of Sterling Norwood.
He recalled the confrontation with Sterling, a flash of murderous intent in his eyes.
But Selena found this reasoning ludicrous. "Being chosen means I must join you? What kind of bandit logic is that?"
Cole’s gaze remained calm as he looked at her. "If we were bandits, you wouldn’t be calmly sitting here right now."
Selena’s feelings shifted from initial vigilance to the shock and surprise from Cole’s words, to a current state of calmness.
Because she understood something crucial from their conversation.
The most important point was that Cole wouldn’t harm her.
At least, not under today’s circumstances.
Selena had spent some time with Cole before, and understood his nature somewhat.
If he wasn’t inclined to act from the beginning, he wouldn’t take action later on either.
So, Selena’s current situation was indeed safe.
Once she regained her composure, Selena began to ponder the meaning behind Cole’s words.
"You said I was chosen by you. What does that mean?"
Selena ventured to ask.
In truth, her intentions were clear as she uttered these words.
Nevertheless, she spoke them aloud.
Because she knew, Cole despised going around in circles more than such a direct approach.
This time Cole didn’t answer her directly, "When you meet the Leader, everything will become clear."
The Leader? Kull?
Upon hearing this title, Selena raised her eyebrows slightly.
If Winston Kensington and Rachel Shaw’s experiment was successful, then Kull was still alive and would remain the leader of the Godsbane Organization.
However, what exactly was Kull like, remained unknown.
"Did you contact me to take me back to the Godsbane Organization?"
Seeing that Cole wasn’t inclined to answer anything else and only intended to take her away, Selena spoke plainly.
Cole nodded, "Yes."
Selena retorted, "And what if I refuse?"
Cole sighed lightly, "You won’t refuse."
"Unless you can disregard Sterling Norwood’s situation."
At Cole’s mention of Sterling Norwood, Selena’s gaze suddenly turned sharp, and her words carried a chilling edge, "What do you mean by that?!"
Cole said nothing further.
Under Selena’s increasingly piercing gaze, Janine Linton, standing nearby, broke the silence.
"Miss Kensington, I believe you have never truly understood the descendants of the Fell Bloodline, the Clan of Celestial Masters, or our Godsbane Organization."
She continued speaking with that impeccable smile.
Hearing Janine’s words, Selena hesitated for a moment, then shifted her gaze from Cole to Janine.
Seeing she had Selena’s attention, Janine went on, "Even if you married into the Norwood Family and became Lady Norwood, your understanding of the Norwood Family and the Kull Bloodline must be limited, right? And Sterling Norwood wouldn’t let you get involved in these matters..."
Before Janine could finish, Selena interrupted her, "I’m not here to listen to your attempts at sowing discord."
Having her words cut off, Janine showed no anger, nor did her expression falter.
"Please, Miss Kensington, don’t rush. I’m just trying to segue into what I have to say next."
"Sterling Norwood is regarded as the strongest bloodline awakening in a century. Even compared with the previously deemed most outstanding heir of the Luminar Clan in a hundred years, he’s superior. So, to what extent can his bloodline awaken? We have no idea."
At Janine’s mention of the Luminar Clan, Selena subconsciously knitted her brows.
The Godsbane Organization was aware of the Luminar Clan, even familiar with the most promising heir they’ve had in a hundred years.
So just how long has this Kull lived?
Was the Luminar Clan’s extermination and the pursuit of Lark Mayfield’s family all the work of the Godsbane Organization?
Janine continued, "These matters should be somewhat clear to you, Miss Kensington."
"Sadly, they haven’t disclosed more to you, like how that most outstanding heir of the Luminar Clan met his end."
